Bush has nominated an EPA head even worse than Whitman, after Whitman fought with him for not protecting the environment enough!
The following are news excerpts from MSNBC.com, Aurora, CO, August 11:
"Utah’s Leavitt choice for EPA post"
'BUSH announced Leavitt’s nomination in Aurora, near Denver, where he was attending a campaign fund-raising event. He called Leavitt a “trusted friend and a capable executive” and said he would be a “fine addition to my administration.” '
"Former New Jersey Gov. Christine Whitman announced in May that she was stepping down as Bush’s first EPA chief, having fought several battles within the administration and saying she wanted to spend more time with her family."
"Leavitt’s ability to help craft solutions is being tested in Utah, where the Outdoor Industry Association is threatening to take its annual convention to another state.
The industry is upset that Leavitt sued to stop a wilderness declaration during the Clinton administration. The lawsuit was dropped in April after the Bush administration removed interim wilderness protection on 6 million acres of federal land in Utah."
John Kerry is determined to reduce our dependence on oil and other polluting fuels (including nuclear!) by 20% by the year 2020. Not only will this help the environment (which Bush doesn't give jack diddly about!) but it will also reduce our dependence on Middle East tyranny regimes like Saudi Arabia and Iran.
