N.M. Lieutenant Governor Diane D. Denish endorses John Kerry

New Mexico Lieutenant Governor Diane D. Denish today endorsed John Kerry for the Democratic nomination for President.

“No one who is running for president, including George W. Bush, has served his country with more honor and dignity than John Kerry,” said Lieutenant Governor Diane D. Denish. “From defending his country as a Vietnam combat veteran to standing up for Head Start and other programs that aim to lift our people out of poverty, John Kerry is a proven leader and the best choice to lead our nation toward a brighter future.”

Diane D. Denish was the first woman to be elected Lieutenant Governor of New Mexico in November 2002. A former chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico, she is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Daniels Fund, which supports early childhood education and other youth programs in New Mexico and the western United States.

Diane also served under Governor Toney Anaya as chair of the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women and was appointed by then Congressman Bill Richardson to serve on the National Advisory Board of the Small Business Administration. Named one of the Top 100 New Mexicans in honor of her community leadership, Diane has served as chair of New Mexico First and chair of the New Mexico Community Foundation.

"I am extraordinarily grateful for Diane Denish's support of my campaign. I've always admired her sensitivity to children's issues, exemplified by her work to improve early childhood education and after school programs in New Mexico," said John Kerry. "As a successful small businesswoman, she has been a leader in expanding entrepreneurship and in making venture capital available to businesses. I'm proud to have her by my side."

It's great to see an endorsement for John Kerry from a prominent woman in politics. Could this be a sign of more to come from women in politics? I hope so! I'm looking for an endorsement or two from the many women politicians in California.
