More Talking points- (9-18) Civil Rights

As you go out and talk about the campaign, here are a few items concerning Civil Rights you might want to discuss.

.) A quote- "We need to guarantee equal rights and civil rights and say that, here in America, workers have the right to organize -- women have the right to choose - and justice belongs to everyone regardless of race or gender or sexual orientation."

.) John Kerry voted for every major piece of Civil Rights legislation to come before Congress since 1985, including the Civil Rights Act of 1991, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. He voted for the Equal Rights Amendment, and supports the Employment Nondiscrimination Act.

.) One of the best things about John Kerry- his judicial appointments will all have to have a record of upholding and keeping Civil Rights. If Bush is reelected, he will continue to appoint extremists to the Federal Courts.

.) John Kerry will preserve Affirmative Action. George Bush is against it. A clear and defined choice...

.) John Kerry believes we should preserve Title IX. (Also see talking points 1-8).

.) John Kerry believes America needs comprehensive election reform, and was a strong supporter of the election reform law passed last year. He and Senator McCain have been at work for a long time on this issue.

.) John Kerry supports expanding our nation's hate crime law.

.) John Kerry is a cosponsor of the Employment Nondiscrimination Act, which extends and strengthens the right of Americans to work in discrimination-free workplaces, regardless of sexual orientation.

.) John Kerry believes that the practice of racial profiling should be prohibited and that remedies should be established for its victims.

.) John Kerry received a 100 percent rating from the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People.
