Pelosi Tries To Force Iraq Investigation

Pelosi Tries To Force Iraq Investigation

November 3rd, 2005

The Hill reports that the House voted down an attempt by Nancy Pelosi to force the House to investigate the Iraq War, coming soon after similar moves in the Senate by Harry Reid. Hopefully both houses of Congress will investigate these matters. If they do not they provide the Democrats with a powerful campaign argument that it is essential to end the current situation of the Republicans controlling both the executive and legislative branches if we are to have accountability in government.

Pelosi tries to force vote on Iraq war issues

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) introduced a privileged resolution on the House floor today, a parliamentary maneuver that attempted to force the House to investigate a broad array of Iraq war issues.
Republican leaders moved to table the resolution, succeeding on a party line vote of 220 to 191. The maneuver forced members to return to the House floor two hours before their next scheduled vote, but did not have the disruptive effect of Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) move Tuesday to force the Senate into a closed session.
Pelosi’s resolution would have required the House to investigate everything from pre-war intelligence to detainee abuse to no-bid contracts awarded to Halliburton.
