John Kerry Talks to Students about Growing Gap in Access to Higher Education under Bush Administration
On August 1, John Kerry met with college students at Suffolk University in Boston. He heard from them and talked about rising tuition costs and the greater burden by states in providing student aid under the Bush Administration.
Kerry’s fighting to Open Doors to College:
• Expand Student Loans and Federal scholarships: John Kerry increasing the maximum Pell Grant, and would back "super" Pell Grants, which provides additional assistance for eligible students who graduate in the top 10 percent of their high school class.
• Four Years of College Tuition for All Who Work For It: John Kerry’s “Service for College” initiative grants volunteers free college tuition to state schools for two years service within their community. Service members would be able to take classes to make sure they have the skills they need to succeed in college. If service members decide not to go to college, their award can be used for job training, to help start a business, or to make a down payment on the purchase of a home. Anyone who elects to serve after they have already completed college can use their award for loan repayment.
Young Voters For Kerry
We are young men and women (18-35 years old) who support John Kerry on his race to the White House. We are a diverse group of young professionals, young workers and young families. It is the perfect way for you to get involved in John Kerry’s Campaign.
John Kerry has always believed that young people are the backbone of the Democratic Party. As someone who cut his teeth in youth politics and in the grassroots activist movements of the 1970's after he returned home from Vietnam, John Kerry is especially committed to running a campaign that engages the best young activists and operatives in our Party. We believe young voters will play a significant role in taking back the White House in 2004.
