"Friends of John Kerry"

Kerry plans to call panel
November 25, 2004

John F. Kerry plans to set up a federal campaign committee as early as this week, which would allow him to seek a fifth term in the US Senate in 2008 while not precluding another run for president that year. The Massachusetts Democrat will call the committee Friends of John Kerry, spokesman David Wade said, and stock it with money from fund-raisers that have yet to be scheduled. Kerry transferred all the money from his previous committee to his presidential campaign committee after retaining his Senate seat in 2002. He could do the same should he decide against seeking reelection in favor of a second bid for the presidency.

As much as we love to see it, such actions aren't realistic here.

The real stealing of the election is over things which are harder to remedy--the dishonesty of the campaign (assisted by much of the media) and the voter suppression.

It is questionable if the actual vote went for Kerry, and in many areas it is impossible to tell for sure if votes were stolen as there is no paper trail. In Ohio there is an organized process which is still underway to count the provissional ballots, overseas absentee ballots, undercounts (ballots not counted initially--the hanging chads), and well as recounts of the rest. It would make no sense to have nation wide protests until we have the results of this process.

2008 will be a more difficult choice since Kerry wouldn't have his Senate seat if he should run and fail to lose. Of course, being from a safe area, he could still run for the nomination without risking his reelection plans should he fail to win the nomination.
